Kenyan businesses to be sensitized on East African common market protocol

Strategy Centre Africa in partnership with the East Africa Business Council and Kenya Private Sector Alliance has organized a two-day conference to sensitize the Kenya Business Community on the East Africa Common Market protocol that came into effect on July 1, organizers said on Thursday.

The Principles of the East African Community Common Markets protocol includes non discrimination, transparency and sharing of information for the implementation of the protocol.

"Different aspects will be important for the business engagement in the region, thus the need for forums that engage the authors and implementers of the Protocol with the Private sector to unravel and enlighten on the modes of operations," one of the key organizers of the conference, Prof. Joseph Keiyah told reporters in Nairobi.

Key areas on focus include Freedom of Goods, Services and capital in order to facilitate a conducive environment within the East African Community.

The conference slated for July 8-7, which will be attended by representatives of Private Sector, Government, Academia and Donors, seeks to bring clarity to the implications of the protocol on the business community with discussions' centered on the four key pillars of Freedom of Movement of Goods, Labor, Capital and Services.
